A healthy bowel function is a sign that the body is working properly, which is also true for animals
Unforeseen events related to pets’ bowels are quite common. When it comes to cats and dogs, no matter what breed, many problems may occur due to poor bowel function. Or due to the contamination of the organ by a pathogen.
Historically, cats and dogs are carnivores. Originally, dogs, in addition to game meat, used to eat fruit found along their way. This way minerals, proteins and other vitamins made up a balanced diet. To achieve such nutritional balance, felines were more elemental, eating meat (protein) and fat to supply their need for energy. However, it does not mean they are less demanding. It is quite the opposite!
So, both of them maintained in a natural way their bowels and all other organs functioning in harmony.
Over the years, animals were domesticated. This forced some organs to adjust according to their new diet and way of eating.
PROS AND CONS RELATED TO BOWEL FUNCTION
Loss of appetite, consequent weight loss and apathy are behavioral or physical symptoms that something is wrong with your pet. Diarrhea and vomit, and the consequent anemia, are other symptoms. They are all related to poor bowel function or to the contamination by pathogens.
The food and healthfulness of the environment are directly linked to preventive care for the bowel health of your animal. Knowing the origin of the food is as important as paying attention to the nutritional facts on the label. Contamination may occur during the production process and be packaged along with the final product, so always choose a reliable company that cares about all aspects.
In summary, poor bowel function is an invitation to infections, worms and parasites. Vulnerability of a weak bowel may cause diseases that lead pets to death.
Preventing such vulnerability with a diet that strengthens the immunity of the animal’s bowels is the best medicine.
Yeast as a solution for proper bowel function
Yeast is a natural compound and a source of protein that directly favors the proper bowel function. In addition to having MOS and β-glucans, inositol and B-complex vitamins, it also stimulates taste buds of animals, providing a highly palatable flavor for dogs, for example.
The yeast hydrolysis process increases the concentration of nutrients available in the food. “This means that the breakdown that occurs in the cell nucleus influences the absorption of nutrients, since they will be more easily digested; yeast helps in this process, in the relationship between the immune system and the intestinal microbiota,” explained the Animal Scientist Márcia Villaça, ICC Brazil PET & Aqua Technical Manager. In other words, yeast is an ingredient that helps strengthen the immunity of the animal’s entire digestive tract through food.
Better food options are ranked as Premium, Special Premium and Super Premium; they also have yeast in their formula.
ICC Brazil recommends ImmunoWall®, Lyscell® and StarYeast® to compose the formulation of pet food. Due to the presence of yeast with different features, these products are capable of agglutinating pathogenic bacteria, such as Salmonella ssp. and E. coli, and are recommended for improving bowel integrity of your pet and promote microbiota balance.
