Excellence in Productivity in Fighting Mycotoxins

ICC Brazil has developed BetaFix® by combining adsorption principles to create a mycotoxin enterosorbent that works efficiently against polar and nonpolar mycotoxins

BetaFix® is the second generation of mycotoxin adsorbents developed by ICC Brazil. It is a high-efficiency enterosorbent against polar and non-polar mycotoxins, such as aflatoxin, fumonisin, and T-2. BetaFix® has in its composition high resistance β-glucans, microlaminated aluminosilicates, and micronized algae. These components are carefully selected to have a synergistic effect to ensure the best adsorption capacity of mycotoxins while maintaining the safety of the nutritional properties of the feed.

The 3 active ingredients are:

  • Purified β-glucans
  • High-purity aluminosilicates
  • Micronized seaweed flour

BetaFix® Active Ingredients

The hydrated calcium and sodium aluminosilicates (HSCAS) used are specially selected and have high efficiency in adsorbing polar mycotoxins, such as aflatoxin.

These HSCAS come from different sources that make up a blend resulting in different laminated and porous structures and build a large surface area, which results in a maximized adsorption capacity.

Cation exchange capacity (CEC) is a factor that indicates whether a product is an effective adsorbent. A low CEC means that the product may not be able to adsorb mycotoxins, whereas a high CEC may result in the adsorption of some nutrients from the diet.

The HSCAS used in the composition of BetaFix® has their CEC controlled, thus ensuring their mycotoxin adsorption efficiency, without adsorbing nutrients from the diet (CEC <100 Meq/100g).

It is monitored to guarantee a product free of heavy metals and dioxins.

Adsorption by Aluminosilicates

HSCAS – Hydrated Sodium Calcium Aluminum Silicate

The electrons from the interlaminar structure of aluminum silicates react with the mycotoxin structure to neutralize them. These bonds are strong, resisting the pH fluctuations of the GIT.

Specific adsorption of β-glucans

Purified β-glucans

BetaFix® contains β-glucans 1,3-1,6, giving the product a broad spectrum of adsorption and stability. β-glucans (in blue) interacting with polar, nonpolar mycotoxins through hydrogen bonds and Van der Waals forces.

Micronized Seaweed Flour

100% natural seaweed flour without vehicles

BetaFix® Active Ingredients
Micronized Seaweed Flour

  • Microporosity = large surface area and adsorption capacity
  • High CEC (Cation Exchange Capacity); as determined by balanced mineral composition
  • Rich in minerals (over 50) with inorganic and organic functions
  • Rich in natural antioxidants
  • Stimulates immune defenses and has anti-inflammatory properties
  • Source of bioactive molecules, terpenic and polyphenolic compounds
  • Source of CaCO3 – stabilizes the cell membrane and stimulates the secretion of bicarbonate, increasing the pH and enhancing the regeneration of the gastric mucosa
  • Extracted from a renewable source

Advantages and Benefits of BetaFix®

  • Association of 3 active ingredients that expand the mycotoxin adsorption range
  • Components with certificates of origin and purity
  • Expected benefits:
    – Reduction of morbidity and mortality
    – Reduction of problems related to reproduction, the liver and others caused by mycotoxins
    – Reduction of mycotoxin residues in animal-based products
    – And as a consequence, overall improvement of immune status and animal performance

Recommendations for Use

BetaFix® is recommended for all production stages and has no restrictions on interactions with other components of the diet. It can be used in pelleted diets.
