Egg: a little big ally for health and economy

To celebrate the month of World Egg Day, check out some information about the importance of eggs and the ICC Brazil ImmunoWall® solution, which contributes to the development and production’s safety.

They may be small but have a big impact on the world’s economy and health. We are talking about eggs, which the world celebrates every second Friday of October. World Egg Day was created in 1996 by the English agency IEC (International Egg Commission). Since then, this date reminds us of the importance of this nutritious and versatile human diet product, which is also quite important in the animal production chain.

Eggs are one of the favorite ingredients for Brazilians and people worldwide, being part of numerous recipes. In addition to taking up little space in home and restaurant storages and remaining fresh for a long time, eggs are also economically accessible and very nutritious. This product is an ally for healthy eating, as it is a source of proteins with high levels of B vitamins, antioxidants, and minerals.

According to estimates by the Brazilian Animal Protein Association (ABPA), the current national consumption per capita should be 8.5% higher than last year. This increase is due to changes in consumers’ eating habits, looking for healthier, more balanced, and quality diets.

To meet consumer demands, Brazil continues to work as one of the world’s largest egg producers. Recently, IBGE (Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics) reported that, between April and June, the country produced 789.46 million dozens of eggs for consumption, a 2.1% increase compared to the same period in 2019. And according to Secex (Secretariat of Foreign Trade), Brazil exported 1.3 thousand tons of eggs in natura in the first eight months of 2020.

ImmunoWall®: a solution that contributes to the safety of egg production.

To collaborate with the development and performance of commercial laying hens, ICC Brazil presents ImmunoWall®, a yeast cell wall-based product with a high concentration of β-glucans (>35%) and mannan oligosaccharides (MOS) (~20%).

In addition to having properties that help the immunity and metabolism of animals, ImmunoWall® contains β-glucans, which have immunomodulatory properties, and MOS with a high pathogen-agglutination capacity. It can act by reducing the bacterias’ presence in eggs and being an essential solution in preventing contamination by Salmonella – a persistent reality for public health that causes significant impacts on production. The damage occurs because, in addition to affecting animal welfare and generating economic losses, there is a risk of transmitting pathogens to the consumer through contaminated products, such as eggs. Thus, an effective pathogen control program with ImmunoWall® helps ensure food safety.

ImmunoWall® also meets the market’s needs regarding the quality of ingredients and additives used in animal feed, a global and irreversible trend. The end consumer is increasingly aware of the relationship between nutrition and health. In addition to being a natural ingredient, ImmunoWall® is a proven effective solution that contributes to animals’ performance, thus providing an excellent cost-benefit ratio.
